REGISTER YOUR CHILDREN FOR KINDERGARTEN

It's that time of year again, Zanesville City Schools are registering Kindergarten students.

Children who will be 5 years old before August 1st 2014 are eligible to register. Registration is currently underway at the Central Office located at 160 N. 4th street.

"We encourage parents to come out now because we have to schedule them for kindergarten screening that we do in May.When they come in here and fill out all the registration, we will schedule that appointment with them," said Kevin Appleman,Student Services Coordinator. "The screening, what they'll do in May is about a 20-30 minute time they'll have with their teacher, and we'll explain that when they get here. That will give us a chance to see what skill level they are at and also help us encourage them to what they need to do over the summer. Like work on ABC's, writing their name, etc."

Parents are to bring a copy of their child's registered birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, proof of residency and custody papers if applicable.

"If you have some missing shot records it's okay because I know some people have doctors appointments coming up still because they need to make sure they're five before August 1st. That's okay, bring in what you have, and when you go to the doctor over the summer, we will update that record for you. So don't come because you don't have enough of the information. Just get down here, it's the best time to do it. Right now this week," said Appleman.

Registration is tomorrow from 4 to 7:30pm as well as Thursday from 5 to 7:30pm.

All children are required to have successfully completed Kindergarten before enrolling in First grade.
